History spotlight: Walt Frazier set the defensive standard

On September 24, 2025, NBA.com published its all-time Knicks All-NBA Defensive First Team feature. The centerpiece was Walt Frazier, who earned seven consecutive All-Defense First Team selections from 1969 through 1975 while helping define the identity of New York’s championship era.

Frazier’s seven First Team All-Defense selections came in consecutive seasons. In six of those seasons, teammate Dave DeBusschere was also selected to the First Team.
